In this research study, it’s aimed to analyze the
correlations between the West’s hegemony formation policies over the East and
Islamic communities and orientalist knowledge and discourse production process
in the fields of “civilizing”, “democratizing” and “counterterrorism” from at
the begining of the 19’th century to today.
In this research study, the deconstruction method which was developed by
Michel Foucault and adopted by Edward Said and Aziz El Azmeh, is prefered as
research method. In this context, orientalist knowledge and discourse
production process is deconstructed in the fields of “civilizing”, “democratizing” and
“counterterrorism” from begining of 19’th century to today and causal
correlations between contents of these concepts and West’s imperialist
interests are elaborated. In this research study, it’s reached that,
orientalist knowledge and discourse production process had created a fictive
Islam and a tautology which always describes West with positive features but
East and Islam with negative features as an opposite of the West. It’s also
reached that this fictive Islam which had produced by orientalists, had used by
the West for the purpose of ensuring legistimacy its imperialist policies on
the East and Islamic communities. While this process had applied by the West
under the names of “civilize” throughout the 19’th centruy, it had been applied
under the names of “democratizing” and “counterterrorism” since the middle of
the 20’th centruy.
