Translation of proper names is of great interest in the field of translation studies and the issue of whether proper names can be translated or not is among the controversial issues in the field because there is no consensus among researchers on whether to translate these names or not; but this does not change the fact that the transfer of proper names from one language to another is a challenging process for translators. Therefore, although there is no consensus on how to translate the proper names, many views and methods have been put forward. In this regard, within the scope of the strategies for translating proper names put forward by Hermans (1988: 13-14) that are copy, transcription, substitution, translation, non-translation and replacement, in this study Turkish translation of the book A Christmas Carol (Bir Noel Şarkısı), written by Charles Dickens and considered among the world classics, will be examined in terms of translator’s decisions and their compliance with Hermans’ strategies. In Turkish translation of the source text selected, while it is seen that the translator preferred most translation and copy strategies respectively, although there was no big difference between the usage frequencies, it was concluded that the translator used transcription and substitution strategies at the same rate and she preferred least frequently replacement and non-translation strategies.
