İntroduction and Objective: This study is a systematic review to examine the factors affecting recurrent clinical hospitalizations of individuals with a diagnosis of psychiatric disorder.
Materials and Methods: The last literature review for the study was conducted in March 2023. Individuals diagnosed with psychiatric disorders and hospitalized were included in this study. The research was conducted by scanning the studies conducted in the last 6 years of the Science Direct, Pubmed, Cochrane, YökTez, Ulakbim database and Dergipark database. In this study, a search was conducted by combining the terms 'recurrent hospitalization' and readmission' and 'recurrent clinical admission' and 'recurrent psychiatric readmissions'.
Results and Conclusion: A total of 8 studies meeting the evaluation criteria are included in the review. In this study, 7 research articles and 1 thesis were examined. There are 7 international articles and 1 nursing department master's thesis made in Turkey. Only 1 master's thesis was found in Turkey that complies with the criteria. The data of the studies present various risk factors affecting recurrent psychiatric hospitalizations. The data obtained; 'characteristics of the sample', 'intervention and procedures', 'risk factors for recurrent hospitalization' were presented under the headings. Various risk factors are specified according to the findings of the studies included in the evaluation.
This systematic review concludes that the risk factors affecting recurrent admission to the psychiatry clinic are high, but there are not enough studies and interventions for prevention.
