The main philosophy of health care is the principle of “primum non nocere” attributed to Hippocrates. However, unfortunately, for many reasons, patients have been suffering harm in institutions where they receive health care. Numerous national and international studies confirm this phenomenon. Countries are striving to minimize damage to patients or to prevent damage while their treatment. It is very important to establish the event reporting systems and reporting adverse events occurring in the health institutions to prevent the repetition of these events and to manage the health system more reliably. The World Health Organization stated that at the beginning of the 2000s, unwanted events should be reported and learning from mistakes should be realized, and only in this way would the quality of health care be improved. Within this framework, the Ministry of Health (MoH) established the Security Reporting System in 2016. During the process that started in March 2016, many adverse events were reported and these events were presented to the public by the MoH as statistical reports. The Ministry of Health emphasizes the importance of establishing hospitals’ own safety reporting systems with the reports it has issued. However, the Ministry draws attention to the necessity of administering training to the employees on how to use the reporting systems and periodically getting their opinions on the issue. In this study, the internet pages of public hospitals serving in Ankara province were examined and the availability and accessibility of the security reporting system of the institutions were discussed.
