Öz

Yeni Koronavirüs Hastalığı (COVID-19), ilk defa 31 Aralık 2019’da Çin’in Wuhan kentinde görülen ve tüm dünyayı tehdit eden bir salgın olmasıyla önemli bir halk sağlığı sorunu olarak kabul edilmektedir. COVID-19 enfeksiyonun sık görülen belirtileri solunum semptomları, ateş, öksürük ve dispnedir. 50 yaş üstü ve kronik hastalığı olan kişilerde (diabetes mellitus, hipertansiyon, kanser ve diğer immunsupresif durumlar) hastalık diğer kişilere göre daha kötü ilerlemekte ve daha ağır sonuçlara sebep olmaktadır. Kanser, dünyada ve ülkemizde sık görülmesi ve mortalite hızının yüksek olması nedeni ile önemli bir halk sağlığı sorunudur. Kanserli kişilerde uygulanan kemoterapi, radyoterapi, cerrahi gibi tedavi yöntemleri immün sistemi baskılayarak kanser hastalarını COVID-19’a yakalanma riski açısından savunmasız hale getirmekte ve hastalık oluştuğunda prognozun kanserli olmayan diğer kişilere göre daha kötü ilerlemesine sebep olmaktadır. Bu süreçte COVID-19’dan korunmada izolasyon önlemleri hayati önem taşımakta ve bu konuda sürekli olarak yönergeler yayımlanmaktadır. Bu önlemlerden bazıları; izolasyon önlemleri almak, kişilerarası ziyaretleri ertelemek, hastaneye gereksiz başvuruları azaltmak ve tele sağlık uygulamalarını yaygınlaştırmaktır. Sürecin etkin bir şekilde yönetimini sağlamak ve literatüre katkıda bulunmak amacıyla COVID-19 ve kanser etkileşimine ilişkin birçok araştırma yapılmaktadır. Yapılan araştırmalar ışığında kanserden korunma, tanı ve tedavi süreçleri hakkında çeşitli kurum ve kuruluşlar tarafından öneriler sunulmakta ve hastalar yönlendirilmektedir. Bu derlemenin amacı COVID-19’un kanser hastaları üzerine etkisini tartışmak, kanserde tanı ve tedavi süreci yönetimini incelemektir.

The COVID-19 and cancer care

The New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is recognized as an important public health problem, as it was an epidemic threatening the whole world, first seen in Wuhan, China on December 31, 2019. Common symptoms of COVID-19 infection are respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, and dyspnea. In people over 50 years of age and with chronic diseases (diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cancer and other immunosuppressive conditions), the disease progresses worse than other people and causes more severe consequences. Cancer is an important public health problem due to its high prevalence in the world and in our country and its high mortality rate. Treatment methods such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery applied in people with cancer suppress the immune system, making cancer patients vulnerable to the risk of getting COVID-19 and when the disease occurs, the prognosis progresses worse than other non-cancerous people. In this process, isolation measures are of vital importance in the protection from COVID-19 and directives are constantly reported on this issue. Some of these measures are; to take isolation measures, postpone interpersonal visits, reduce unnecessary visits to hospital and spread telehealth practices. In order to manage the process effectively and contribute to the literature, many studies are conducted on the interaction of COVID-19 and cancer. In the light of the researches, suggestions are offered by various institutions and organizations on cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment processes and patients are guided. The purpose of this review is to discuss the effect of COVID-19 on cancer patients and to examine the management of the diagnosis and treatment process in cancer.
