EBİ SALT DANİ'NİN MODALİTE ANLAYIŞI

Öz

This study explores the modal propositions and modal syllogisms of Ebi Salt Dani (d.579/1134), a contemporary of Ghazzali. Contrary to the approaches of most of thelogicians im Islam, he considers discussion of the modal syllogisms important andexamines in details all kind of modal syllogisms and displayed their tables. It starts withhis survey of all types of modal proposition, which can be classified in four maincategories: absolute, possible, necessary, impossible. It gives Ebi Salt Dani's definition ofabsolute, possible, necessary and impossible propositions.
