The ambiguous aspects of a word or a phrase become clear and definite when elucidated by a speaker. In this context, some authors classified the method of interpretation of the Qur’ān by the Qur’ān under the interpretation based on the tradition by considering it as the first source of this type of Tafsīr. They also defined this method as the explanation of ambiguous words by the speaker (Allah) himself whereas, this method could be used through matching the meaning of a verse with another. Therefore, the conclusions arrived by using this method are subjective. The binding nature of the exegetical narratives from the Prophet and the narratives from the companions on the knowledge of unseen and imperceptible subjects depends on the religious authority of both not the method itself. But the issue of interpretation of the Qur’ān by the Qur’ān is completely related to whether those who practice this method use objective data and arguments. This study will primarily focus on the characteristics of the Qur’ānic language in terms of possibility and the bindingness of the interpretation of the Qur’ān by the Qur’ān and will handle the ambiguous phrases which they are part of the text from the methodological perspective. We seek in this study to substantiate that the interpretation of the Qur’ān by the Qur’ān is of subjective characteristics. We also provide with some terminological and theoretical suggestions for this issue.
