EKOLOJİK RESTORASYON VE TASARIMIN KESİŞİMİ: SERAMİĞİN KRİTİK EKOSİSTEMLERDEKİ ROLÜ

Öz

Seramik, tarih boyunca ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel değişimler, bilimsel ve teknolojik gelişmeler, sanat hareketleri ve disiplinler arası yaklaşımlar gibi birçok dinamiğin etkileşimiyle şekillenmiş ve farklı bağlamlarda yeniden konumlanarak kullanılmıştır. Günümüzde ise fiziksel dayanıklılığı, doğal süreçlerle uyumluluğu ve sürdürülebilir üretim potansiyeli sayesinde daha büyük çevresel sistemlerle bütünleşerek ekolojik restorasyon projelerinde de önemli bir tasarım öğesi haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışma, seramik malzemenin kritik ekosistemlerde gerçekleştirilen ekolojik restorasyon projelerindeki rolünü ve sürdürülebilir tasarım süreçlerine katkısını incelemektedir. Nitel araştırma yöntemiyle yürütülen çalışmada, literatür taraması ve seçilmiş uygulama örnekleri analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, ekolojik temelli seramik üretimlerinin, ekolojik tasarım ve restorasyon disiplinlerinin tarihsel gelişimiyle paralellik gösterdiğini ortaya koymuştur. 20. yüzyılda ekolojik duyarlılığın artmasıyla birlikte, seramik malzeme sürdürülebilir yapı elemanları, doğal su filtreleme sistemleri ve çevre dostu tasarımlar gibi alanlarda kullanılmaya başlanmış; biyobozunur katkılar ve düşük enerjiyle pişirilen seramikler gibi yenilikçi yaklaşımlar geliştirilmiştir. 21. yüzyılda ise küresel iklim krizi ve ekolojik sürdürülebilirlik ihtiyacı, seramiğin kullanım alanlarını genişletmiş; bu malzemeyi 3D baskı teknolojileri ve biyomimikri destekli uygulamalarla mercan resiflerinden kentsel sürdürülebilirlik projelerine kadar uzanan bir yelpazede ekosistemlerin yeniden canlandırılmasına katkıda bulunan bir malzeme haline getirmiştir. Sonuç olarak, çalışma, seramiğin ekolojik krizlere duyarlı tasarım süreçlerinde kritik bir rol oynayabileceğini vurgulamakta ve onu küresel çevresel dinamiklere entegre bir malzeme olarak konumlandırmaktadır.

ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION AND THE INTERSECTION OF DESIGN: THE ROLE OF CERAMICS IN CRITICAL ECOSYSTEMS

Öz

Throughout history, ceramics have been shaped by the interaction of various dynamics, including economic, social, and cultural changes, scientific and technological advancements, art movements, and interdisciplinary approaches. Today, due to its physical durability, compatibility with natural processes, and sustainable production potential, ceramics have become a significant design element in ecological restoration projects by integrating with broader environmental systems. This study examines the role of ceramic material in ecological restoration projects conducted in critical ecosystems and its contribution to sustainable design processes. The research was conducted using a qualitative methodology, including a literature review and analysis of selected case studies. The findings reveal that ecologically based ceramic productions parallel the historical development of ecological design and restoration disciplines. With the rise of ecological awareness in the 20th century, ceramic materials began to be used in areas such as sustainable building components, natural water filtration systems, and environmentally friendly designs; innovative approaches such as biodegradable additives and low-energy-fired ceramics were also developed. In the 21st century, the global climate crisis and the need for ecological sustainability have further expanded the application areas of ceramics, transforming the material into a contributor to ecosystem revitalization across a wide spectrum—from coral reef restoration to urban sustainability projects—through 3D printing technologies and biomimicry-supported applications. In conclusion, this study emphasizes that ceramics can play a critical role in design processes sensitive to ecological crises and positions the material as an integrated component of global environmental dynamics.
