The artist and the theorist struggle continually to discover new phenomena by turningto art history, in which the new encompasses the old and which is founded upon them.Three figure dialectic refers to the conceptualization of surprising similarities betweencertain masterpieces in art history. In the situation between three figures, the pairing oftwo figures with each other allows the third figure, which is far from the possibilitiesafforded to the human from civilization yet is still within civilization, to enter aconscientious relationship with the observer. Thus the common features of these worksis their being devoid of a pleasing element. Another common feature is that in all ofthese works there is a kind of deformation and, related to this, an expressive language. The distance created by deformation brings the observer into intellectual activity vis-avis the work. Three Figure Dialectic supports the assertion that the artist is a"conscience" related to the era
