AN EVALUATION ON SOME WAYS COMMENTATED IN THE CLASSICAL RESOURCES AND ATTRIBUTED TO IBN ABBAS (IN THE CONTEXT OF COMMENTARY)
Abstract
After the death of the Prophet (pbuh), there was a need for a reasonable and accurate interpretation of the Qur'an for various reasons. In this regard, the first people to consult have been the companions who are prominent in knowledge. Abdullah Ibn Abbâs is one of these leading figures in knowledge and one of the companions evaluated as muksirun. In order to increase his knowledge, he was granted the Prophet (pbuh)'s prayer. He is considered as the founder of Mecca commentary ecole. As a natural consequence of all of this, a great number of narrations from Ibn Abbas have taken place in many different sources especially in the commentary books and have been transmitted in different ways. The ways of these narrations based on Ibn Abbas differ in terms of accurateness. Therefore, the way to know how reliable these narrations attributed to Ibn Abbas is to examine the ways of these narrations in terms of accurateness without ignoring the textual criticism. The scholars of Al-Jarh (Criticism) and Al-Ta'dil (Praise) have made great efforts in determining the degree of accurateness of many ways of commentary narrated from Ibn Abbas and explained their opinions. In this context, it is possible to classify the ways of commentary narrated from Ibn Abbas in nine main articles. Among these ways; in terms of sanad (narrator) evaluations and resource criticisms we made, Ebû Sâlih way stands out as the most accurate, Muhammad b. Sâib al-Kelbi way, on the other hand, stands out as the weakest. Also, in this study, the ways attributed to Ibn Abbas are evaluated especially in terms of being included in commentary (tafsir) science sources. In addition, it is thought that the evaluation of these ways (tariqs) will contribute to the field in terms of the criticism of classical commentary (tafsir) sources.
