Effect of sowing depth on yield and some yield components of pea genotypes

Abstract

The depth of sowing has a significant effect on the seedling emergence, yield and yield characteristics in the all plants. This study was carried out to determine the effect of different sowing depth on yield and some yield characteristics of feed peas. The study was performed in four different depths (5, 10, 15, 20 cm) of 8 different feed pea lines in Konya conditions in 2005 and 2006. The experiment was arranged according to a randomized complete blocks design with three replications. In this study, number of days to emergence, emergence rates, number of days to harvest, plant height, bottom pod height, number of main braches, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, number of nodes per plant, pod length, pod width, thousand seed weight and seed yield were determined. The results showed that the depth of sowing had a significant effect on the number of days to emergence, emergence rates, plant height, number of main braches, number of pods per plant, number of nodes per plant, pod length and seed yield. Therefore, considering the soil and weather conditions of the region, the appropriate sowing depth for high grain yielding should be between 5 – 10 cm. Line 5, Line 6, Line 7 and Line 1, in the same significance group can be used in Konya and similar conditions according to the two year average seed yields.
