The Impact of Physical Performance Indicators on Maximal Sprint Performance in Young Female Soccer Players: A Correlation Analysis

Öz

This study aimed to examine the relationship between aerobic capacity measures, including the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 Total Distance (YYIRT1 TD), maximal aerobic speed (MAS), maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂max), and maximal sprint speed (MSS), in elite youth female soccer players. A total of 26 elite female youth soccer players (Age: 15.5 ± 0.51 (years); Height: 162.1 ± 4.0 cm; Body Weight: 54.0 ± 3.5 kg) participated in this study. Aerobic capacity was assessed using YYIRT1 TD, MAS, and VO₂max, while MSS was measured during a 30-m linear sprint test. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to determine the relationships between MSS and the aerobic capacity parameters. Pearson correlation coefficients (r) were calculated to evaluate the strength and direction of the relationships, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. The results demonstrated significant positive correlations between MSS and all aerobic capacity measures: YYIRT1 TD (r = 0.543, p = 0.004), VO₂max (r = 0.543, p = 0.004), and MAS (r = 0.557, p = 0.003). The findings demonstrate a significant correlation between aerobic capacity and MSS, indicating that higher levels of aerobic fitness are associated with improved sprint performance. In conclusion, this study highlights a strong relationship between aerobic capacity and maximal sprint speed in elite youth female soccer players. The results emphasize the need for integrated training programs to develop aerobic fitness and anaerobic power concurrently.
