The concept of mindfulness was first defined by Kabat-Zinn in 1979 and is the act of paying attention to the present moment without judgment and with a certain intention, and noticing what is happening in this moment as it is. It is known that mindfulness-based interventions, in addition to their effects on quality of life and mental health, are also effective on individuals with physical diseases. It has been determined that mindfulness-based interventions on cancer, one of these physical diseases, reduce psychological distress such as depression, anxiety, fear of death and stress, and lead to positive changes such as post-traumatic growth and improved quality of life. These results emphasize the importance of mindfulness-based interventions to reduce physical and psychological symptoms of cancer patients, manage treatment side effects, and maintain their well-being. At the same time, with mindfulness, individuals diagnosed with cancer can develop more active coping skills against the process, strengthen their psychological well-being and increase their self-efficacy. In this review, we tried to focus on the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions in cancer patients and the role of the psychiatric nurse. Psychiatric nurses stand out with their role in this process and can guide patients in the cancer process to focus on their experiences with awareness and make sense of their lives. Within the framework of the literature review, it was observed that mindfulness-based intervention programs for cancer patients were limited and more research was needed in this field.
