“Child Safety” in the Next Generation of Smart Cars: Where should the solution start?

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 1 Sayı: 1, 1 - 7, 30.09.2025

Recently, the number of technological opportunities that children are involved in and benefit from has been increasing. One of these technological tools is the new generation smart vehicles that are rapidly entering our agenda. However, the issue of child safety is not sufficiently addressed in new generation vehicles. Although these vehicles are designed to be highly functional, practical, facilitating and comfortable, if they are not designed with a holistic understanding of child safety, the possible risks of technological products can turn into a situation that can harm children much more easily. For this reason, it would be beneficial to increase the knowledge and awareness of the professionals who design these environments on child safety in order to develop an understanding that will help these tools, which are introduced as a third environment for children, become environments that protect children both physiologically and psychosocially. For this reason, new generation vehicles should be designed and operated in a way that takes children's rights into account, does not segregate children, helps them realize their rights and protects their safety. Such environments will enable children to develop in a healthy way. In vehicles where these principles are not observed, possible problems that may cause harm to children may arise. This study aims to discuss where to start in transforming new generation vehicles into child-oriented environments with a compilation method. Thus, it offers suggestions on how to increase the knowledge and awareness of professionals who design these tools about children's rights, child abuse and neglect, and child safety.
