THE PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS PREPARED AGAINST FEMICIDE IN EUROPE IN LIGHT OF SNOW'S SYMBOLIC INTERACTION APPROACH

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 1 Sayı: 1, 37 - 51, 30.09.2025

Many women lose their lives every year in Europe due to femicide. Official institutions apply restraining orders and severe penal sanctions to prevent femicide. In addition, efforts are made to prevent violence and possible murders by providing training on violence against women. Despite all these measures, violence against women and femicide cannot be prevented. In this context, various public service announcements are made to raise public awareness about femicide. The aim of the study is to determine what kind of messages are given in public service announcements about femicide in Europe. Within the scope of the study, public service announcements shot against femicide in four European countries, namely Italy, Poland, Turkey and Greece, were analyzed in light of David A. Snow's Symbolic Interaction Approach. As a result of the study, it was determined that four different topics were emphasized in the public service announcements: child victims of femicide, social pressure and femicide, not forgetting femicide, obsessive partner and femicide. In this respect, it was concluded that public service announcements attempted to raise public awareness against femicides by using different content and messages.
