Measurements of Gamma Dose Rate in Various Working Environments and Assessment of Radiological Hazards

Öz

People spend most of their time in offices and schools after their homes. Workplaces can include both indoor and outdoor areas. On the Ege University campus, academic and administrative staff, students, patients and visitors occupy a variety of working environments for long periods throughout the day. In this study, gamma dose rates were measured using a portable radiation dose rate and dose meter device at a total of 30 locations (17 outdoors and 13 indoors) on the Ege University campus over a six-month period. The absorbed dose rates, the annual effective equivalent doses and the excess lifetime cancer risk were calculated from these measurements. The results were compared with the limit values established by global studies and other research conducted in Türkiye, and occupational health and safety regulations. The suitability of the findings in terms of occupational health and safety has been evaluated.
