Endovascular treatment in the management of hemoptysis: Single Center Experience and Early Stage Clinical Results

Öz

Background and objective: Endovascular treatment for bleeding control in the hemoptysis was first performed and described in 1970’s. In the present day, bronchial artery embolization is performed for all degrees of hemoptysis in benign and malign pathologies. Case series to evaluate patients’ demographics, angiographic findings, technical success of treatment, and early clinical success were presented.Material-Methods: Between 2007-2018, the patients with hemoptysis undergoing angiographic evaluation were included the study in Interventional Radiology Unite. Patients’ demographics, angiographic findings, technical success of treatment, and early clinical success were evaluated. Results: Thirty-seven patients who had angiographic pathologic signs from 47 patients with hemoptysis were treated 91.8 % technical success (n=34). Early stage clinical success, during the length of hospital stay or the first month period, was achieved in 31 (91%) patients. The main angiographic abnormality was parenchymal staining and the first choice agents were polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) for embolization. There were no complications related to the procedure. Conclusions: Results suggest that endovascular treatment in patients with hemoptysis is a safe and an effective approach that supports current literature.
