Determination of Efficacy of Pollen Containing Soya Flour and Milk Powder in Bumblebee, Bombus terrestris L.

Abstract

Experiment was conducted to determine the effects of pollen containing soya flour and milk powder in Bombus terrestris. Five diets were tested using both standard rearing and micro colony methods: normal pollen, 2x pollen + 1x soya flour, 2x pollen + 1x milk powder, 1x pollen + 1x soya flour, and 1x pollen + 1x milk powder. Results showed that addition of soya flour and milk powder to pollen had a negative effect on colony foundation success of queens and colony development. In the standard rearing method, differences were found among the groups in terms of egg laying ratio and mortality ratio in first month. Many queens which fed with diet containing milk powder died and increasing of ratio of milk powder raised the mortality ratio. According to data obtained from micro colonies, normal pollen which more efficacy than diets containing soya flour and milk powder is the best food for B. terrestris.

Bombus terrestris Arısında Soya Unu ve Süt Tozu İçeren Polenin Yarayışlılığının Belirlenmesi

Öz

Araştırmada soya unu ve süt tozu içeren polenin Bombus terrestris arısı için yarayışlılığını belirlemek amacıyla normal polen, 2 birim polen + 1 birim soya unu, 2 birim polen + 1 birim süt tozu, 1 birim polen + 1 birim soya unu ve 1 birim polen + 1 birim süt tozu olmak üzere beş farklı diyet standart yetiştirme ve mikro koloni yöntemleri ile test edilmiştir. Sonuçlar polene soya unu ve süt tozu ilave edilmesinin ana arıların koloni oluşturma başarısı ve koloni gelişimini olumsuz etkilediğini göstermiştir. Standart yetiştirme yönteminde gruplar arasında yumurtlama ve ilk bir aydaki ölüm oranı bakımından önemli farklılık bulunmuştur. Süt tozu ilave edilen polen ile beslenen gruplarda yüksek oranda ana arı ölümleri gerçekleşmiş ve süt tozu oranının artması ana arıların ölüm oranının artmasına neden olmuştur. Mikro kolonilerden elde edilen sonuçlara göre soya unu ve süt tozu içeren diyetlere göre daha yarayışlı olan normal polenin B. terrestris arıları için en uygun besin olduğu belirlenmiştir.
