Effect of Microbial Fertilizer and Plant Activator Applications on Quality Parameters in Organic Growing Carrots
Abstract
This study was carried out in Konya/Karapınar between 2010-2011 years in order to
determine the effects of microbial fertilizer and plant activator applications on the quality
characteristics of carrot with using the randomized block design. In the experiment, total phenolic
content, antioxidant activity, β-carotene, total sugar and dry matter contents were examined. The
highest antioxidant activity (46.67 % inhibition) and highest total compounds of phenolic (101.1 mg
GAE/100 g) were determined in Biosaps application. However in 2011, the highest total phenolic
content was obtained from Vitormone application (101.6 mg GAE/100 g). In 2010-2011, the amount
of β-carotene level was varied104.29-210.10 ug/gr. In 2010, the highest value of dry matter content
(14.6%) was found to be in Vitormone, Cropset and Biosaps, but in 2011, similar value (14.5 %) was
determined only in Vitormone application. The maximum content of total sugar was obtained 7.76
g/100g from Fosfert application. The use of microbial fertilizer provided a positive contribution on the
quality characteristics of a carrot.
