Utilization of Tobacco Seed (Nicotiana tabacum L.) as Biodisel
Öz
The plants which can convert solar energy into chemical energy within their own bodies are
considered as a new and renewable source in the energy sector. Accordingly, we have recently
observed an increase in the number of biodiesel plants. The biggest problem faced by the sector is the
provision of raw material. In our country, which has an increasing amount of deficiency in oil, this
problem is even bigger and alternative ways are sought. This study aimed to demonsrate tobacco seeds
as one of the alternatives because after the tobacco leaves are collected from the field, tobacco seeds
are left on the field due to their low yield. However, these seeds have high level of oil and have
produced satisfying chemical and biodiesel results. This in result leads to a 14000 tone-loss of raw oil
potential. Thus, it is obligatory for Turkey to save raw vegetable oil sources in our country, where
70% of the oil is imported.
