Öz

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türkiye Süper Ligi’nde takımların gol bulma biçimleri ile sportif başarı arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada 2021–2022 sezonunda Süper Lig’de mücadele eden 20 takımın toplam 380 müsabakası analiz edilmiştir. Takımlar, sezon sonunda elde ettikleri puanlar ve lig sıralamaları dikkate alınarak saçılım grafiği yardımıyla üç gruba ayrılmıştır: başarılı (ilk 5 takım), orta düzey (vasat; 11 takım) ve başarısız (son 4 takım). Gruplar arasındaki farkların incelenmesinde tek yönlü varyans analizi (One-Way ANOVA) kullanılmıştır.

Goal Scoring and Team Success: An Analysis of the 2021–2022 Turkish Super League

Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between different goal-scoring methods and team success in the Turkish Super League.
Methods: A total of 380 matches played by 20 teams during the 2021–2022 Turkish Super League season were analyzed. Teams were classified into three groups based on their final league standings and total points using a scatter plot approach: successful teams (top 5), moderately successful teams (middle 11), and unsuccessful teams (bottom 4). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to compare the groups in terms of performance-related variables. The dependent variables included total goals scored and conceded, goals scored from open play and set pieces, number of passes before goals, and duration of goal-scoring attacks.
Results: The findings indicated that successful teams scored significantly more goals than both moderately successful and unsuccessful teams. While no significant difference was observed between successful and moderately successful teams in terms of goals conceded, both groups conceded significantly fewer goals than unsuccessful teams. Successful teams conceded fewer goals from both set pieces and open play compared to unsuccessful teams, whereas no significant differences were found between moderately successful and unsuccessful teams for these variables. Additionally, successful teams demonstrated significantly higher percentages of goals scored from open play compared to the other groups. The duration of goal-scoring attacks and the number of passes leading to goals were also significantly higher in successful teams, followed by moderately successful and unsuccessful teams, respectively.
Conclusion: The results indicate that team success in football is strongly associated not only with scoring more goals but also with the qualitative aspects of goal production. Effective ball circulation, longer and more organized attacking sequences, and defensive efficiency appear to be key determinants of success. Teams that both score more goals and concede fewer goals—particularly through structured open-play attacks—demonstrate a clear competitive advantage.
