"Scientific Evolution of Blood Flow Restriction Exercise in Football: A Bibliometric Mapping of the 2012–2025 Period"

Aim: This study aimed to bibliometrically examine the development and major research trends of the scientific literature on Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) applications in the context of football. Method: A total of 29 scientific publications published between 2012 and 2025 and meeting the predefined criteria in the Web of Science (WoS) database were evaluated using bibliometric analysis. Results: The findings revealed that publication output fluctuated over the years, reaching its highest level in 2018. The literature was predominantly concentrated in the field of Sport Sciences, followed by Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. Keyword analysis indicated that rehabilitation, football, and blood flow restriction training were among the prominent concepts shaping the research field. In addition, certain authors, sources, and countries were found to occupy central positions in the development of the field in terms of scientific productivity and interaction. Conclusion: The literature on BFR applications in football has primarily developed around performance enhancement and rehabilitation, indicating considerable potential for further interdisciplinary research.
