Effects of Boron Application on The Yield and Quality of Some Poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) Varieties –II (Quality Characters and Plant Boron Concentration)

This research was conducted to determine the effects of different boron levels on yield and quality of four poppy va-rieties during 2002-2003 growing season under Afyon ecological conditions in experiment field of Kocatepe Agricultural Research Institute. The experiment was designed according to “Split Plot on Randomized Complete Blok” with four replications, the varieties (Ankara 94, Kocatepe 96, Afyon Kalesi 95 ve Karahisar 96) were put into place to main plots and boron doses (control, 0.1 kg B/da, 0.3 kg B/da, 0.9 kg B/da, 3.6 kg B/da) were put into place to sub plots, respectively. In this research, boron concentration in leaves, in seed and in capsule; crude oil and morphine ratio, morphine and crude oil yield were determinated. As a result, the effects of different boron doses on morphine and crude oil yield, boron concentration and crude oil ratio were found significant differences but the effects of boron doses on ratio of morphine was not found important. According to the results of this research, the highest morphine and crude oil yield were obtained from application of 0.1 kg B/da. Boron concentrations in plant were increased with increasing boron concen-trations except boron concentrations in seed. Karahisar 96 variety had highest crude oil and morphine yield.
