Effect of Dietary Calcium, Protein, Lysine and Methionine Levels on the Performance Carcass Weight and Bone Development in Young Japanese Quail

Öz

A study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary calcium, protein, lysine and methionine on the performance and some bone (tibia) characteristics in young Japanese quail from I to 37 days of age. The experiment consisted of a 2x4 factorial arrangement with 2 different Ca levels (0.85% and 0.53%, I ve 2 respectively) and 4 different levels of protein, lysine and methionine. The protein, lysine and methionine levels of diets were as follows; in diet A, protein, lysine and methionine levels were just needed levels by quall (23.5% protein 1.3% lysine and 0.5% methionine). In diet B, protein and methionine levels were higher 15% and lysine level was higher 20% than the required amounts (26.5% protein, 1.55% lysine and 0.58 % mehtionin). In diet C, protein and methionine levels were lower 15% and lysine level was lower 20% than the diet A (20.0% protein, 1.04% lysine and 0.40% methionin). In diet D, protein was 15% lower, methinonin was 15% higher and lysine was 20% higher than the diet A (20.1% protein, 1.54% lysine, 0.58% methionine). In the experiment 2 pens of 10 quails were randomly assigned to each treatment. Broking strength of bones were measured with cleaned wet tibia, but other bone characte- ristics were measured on dried tibia. None of the criteria measured in this experiment, except breaking strenght, was not significantly affected by Ca levels in the ration. Breaking strenght of quails fed 0.85% Ca was singnificantly higher (P<0.05) than quails fed 0.53% Ca. Body weight at 37 th days of age in quails fed ration B was significantly higher (P<0.05) compared with quails fed ration A and also weight gain at during 0-21 or 0-31 days of age of this group were higher (P>0.05), than quails fed ration A. Body weight at 37 th days of age and weight gain from 0 to 21 or 37 days age of quails fed ration D were as high as or better than group fed ration B. There was not an interaction of Ca and protein, lysine, methionine on all measured performance criteria and bone characteristics except, breaking strength, but these characters were higher with diet B and D in both of Ca levels. The breaking strenght of quail fed low Ca and low protein, lysine and methionine (2 C group) was significantly lower (P< 0.01) than other groups. This research demonstrated that when the quails were fed diet containing adequate Ca and low protein (as low as 20%), provided that diet fortified with sen- thetic lysine and methionine up to level somewhat higher than needed amount, growth performence and bone development were as good as to qualis fed 26.5% protein.
