Determination of Energy Use Efficiency in Grain Corn Production Areas in Batman Province and Spatial Mapping in Geographic Information Systems (CBS) Environment

Öz

In this study, determination of energy use efficiency in grain maize production areas in Batman province and its districts and spatial mapping in geographic information systems (GIS) environment were carried out. In order to calculate energy equivalents, the amounts of inputs used in grain maize production were found and these input data were multiplied by energy equivalence coefficients. It was determined as 12977.80 kg ha-1 per unit area. Total energy input in grain maize production was 20471.02 MJ ha-1 and energy output was 189216.32 MJ ha-1. The energy use efficiency, energy productivity, specific energy, specific energy and net energy were determined as 9.24, 0.63 kg MJ-1, 1.58 MJ kg-1 and 168745.30 MJ ha-1, respectively. The shares of direct, indirect, renewable and non-renewable energy sources were found to be 24.92%, 75.08%, 12.80% and 87.20%, respectively. In the other stage of this research, the areas of the producers cultivating grain corn in the central district, Beşiri and Kozluk districts of Batman Province were subjected to spatial analysis in GIS environment with the coordinates of the values obtained by handheld GPS (Global Positioning System). In the literature review, it was observed that no detailed study has been carried out so far to determine the energy use efficiency in grain corn fields in Batman province and to create spatial energy distribution maps in GIS environment. In this respect, the study is the first of its kind.
