Bizans Sikkelerinde Yer Alan Göksel Varlıklar “Kerubim Ve Serafim”

Öz

Cherubs and seraphs are celestial creatures which are defined in both the Old and the New Testament. Cherubs are believed to be guardian of the Garden of Eden and Seraphs are believed to be guardian of the throne of God’s. Cherubs are believed to have four and seraphs are believed to have six wings in Orthodoxy belief. Cherubs are firstly used as a depiction of a coin by emperor of Nicaea, Ioannes III Ducas Vatatzes 1222-1254 and they are also used by despotes of Thessalonica, Ioannes Comnenus Ducas 1237-1244 Cherubs were only used by these two rulers between 1204 to 1261. After renovation of the empire in 1261, first two emperors of Palaeologian Dynasty continued to use the depiction of cherubs. Mikhael VIII Palaeologos and Andronikos II Palaeologos used both cherubs and seraphs on their copper coin types for political propoganda with the help of religion.

Öz

Eski ve Yeni Ahit’te tanımlanan kerubim ve serafim göksel yaratıklardır. Kerubimin Cennet bahçesi Aden’in ve seraphimin ise Tanrı tahtının koruyucuları olduklarına inanılmakta ve kutsal kitaplarda da bu inanış yer almaktadır. Kerubim dört, serafim ise altı kanatlıdır. Kerubim tasviri ilk olarak Bizans İmparatorluğu’nun 1204 yılındaki Latin işgali sonrası kurulan İznik İmparatorluğunun idarecisi III. Ioannes Dukas Vatatzes 1222-1254 ve Selanik Devleti idarecisi Ioannes Komnenos Dukas 1237-1244 dönemlerinde basılan bakır sikke birimlerinde kullanılmıştır. 1204-1261 yılları arasında sadece bu iki idareci tarafından sikke ikonografisinde kullanılan kerubim tasviri, 1261 yılı sonrasında yeniden kurulan imparatorluğun ilk iki idarecisi VIII. Mikhail ve ardılı II. Andronikos Palaiologos dönemlerinde de devam etmiştir. Palaiologos Hanedanının bu iki imparatoru iktidarları sırasında bastırdıkları bakır sikkelerde kerubim ve serafim tasvirlerinin dinsel anlamlarını siyasi propoganda amacıyla kullanmış olmalıdırlar
