THE IMPACT OF R&D EXPENDITURES ON ECONOMIC GROWTH: A CAUSALITY ANALYSIS FOR TURKEY

Competition has become more important day by day because of increasing integration of international markets and expansion of scope and nature of free trade agreements. These conditions require continuous competition at international scale; for this reason, research and development expenditure has become more important at each stage of production and marketing. Finally; importance given to R&D units and expenditures will provide a positive contribution to the competitiveness and economic growth. Aim of this study is to examine relationship between R&D expenditure and economic growth for Turkey. For this purpose Toda-Yamamoto causality test applied for the period of 1990-2013 with annual data.Finally, causality found from GDP per capita to R&D expenditure however there is no causality from R&D expenditure to GDP for Turkey
