Post-Minimalist Bakış Açısıyla Rıchard Deatson ve Kosho Ito Seramiklerinin Değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Bu araştırma, 1960'ların post-Minimalizm süreç sanatında çağdaş seramik sanatı etrafında eleştirel yazıların eksikliğinden yola çıkarak oluşturulmuştur. Eleştirel yazının eksikliği, her türlü seramik uygulamasında kabul görmüş bir sorundur ve bu durumun bazı nedenleri araştırılacaktır. Geçtiğimiz son otuz yılda sanatçılar, eleştirmenler, akademisyenler ve küratörler tarafından çağdaş çalışmaları desteklemek ve daha geniş kültürel tartışmalarla bağlantı kurmak için çağrılar yapılmıştır. Bu dönemde sanatçılar, eserin yapım sürecini içeriğin bir parçası olarak kullanmaya başladığı görülmektedir. Bu tür çalışmaların geleneksel atölye seramikleriyle hiçbir ilişkisi olmadığı ve eleştirmenlerin bu tarz çalışmalar hakkında yazmanın normatif seramik terimleriyle sınıflandırmanın zor olduğunu belirtmiştir. Ancak, seramik uygulamasının bu alanı, malzemelerin davranışını ve yapım eylemini vurgulayan 1960'ların bir hareketi olan post-Minimalizm ile özellikler paylaşmaktadır.

Post-Minimalist süreç sanatı etrafında geliştirilen eleştirel yazıların, geleneklerle bağlarını koparan ve seramiğin geleneksel tanımlarını genişleten, değiştiren radikal yeni yaklaşımlar için bir bağlam sağlamaktadır. Temel post-Minimalist metinler, süreç odaklı seramik sanatı için yeni bir eleştirel söylem için analitik bir şablon olarak incelenmektedir. Makalede, Richard Deacon ve Kosho Ito’nun heykel seramikleri, süreç odaklı eğilimleri ve post-minimalist bir bakış açısıyla yeniden kavramsallaştırma olasılığını belirlemenin bir yolu araştırılmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın süreç odaklı seramik sanatı için yeni bir eleştirel bağlam sağlaması umulmaktadır. Çağdaş seramik uygulayıcılarını kendi uygulama alanlarına yönelik akademik bir eleştiri sunmanın yeni yollarını keşfetmeye teşvik etmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Makale yazılması zor, kendi uygun eleştirel dili olmayan ve standart seramik terimleriyle kategorize edilmesi zor olarak tanımlanan süreç odaklı seramik uygulama alanı için yeni bir eleştirel bağlam ve yazma yaklaşımı belirlemektedir. Çalışma kapsamında seramik alanında incelenerek literatüre katkı sağlaması hedeflenmektedir. Çalışmada genel tarama modeli esas alınmış ve nitel araştırma yöntem ve teknikleri kullanılmıştır.

Evaluation of Richard Deatson and Kosho Ito Ceramics from A Post-Minimalist Perspective

This research is motivated by the lack of critical writing around contemporary ceramic art in the post-Minimalist process art of the 1960s. The lack of critical writing is a recognized problem in all ceramic practices, and some of the reasons for this will be explored. Over the past three decades, there have been calls by artists, critics, academics and curators to support contemporary work and to engage with broader cultural debates. During this period, artists began to use the process of making the work as part of the content. Such work had no relation to traditional studio ceramics, and critics have noted that writing about such work was difficult to classify in normative ceramic terms. However, this area of ceramic practice shares characteristics with post-Minimalism, a movement of the 1960s that emphasized the behavior of materials and the act of making.

The critical writing around post-Minimalist process art provides a context for radical new approaches that break with tradition and expand and challenge traditional definitions of ceramics. Key post-Minimalist texts are examined as an analytical template for a new critical discourse for process-oriented ceramic art. The article explores a way to identify the process-oriented tendencies of Richard Deacon and Kosho Ito’s sculptural ceramics and the possibility of reconceptualizing them from a post-minimalist perspective. It is hoped that this research will provide a new critical context for process-oriented ceramic art. It is intended to encourage contemporary ceramic practitioners to explore new ways of providing academic critique of their own practice. The article identifies a new critical context and writing approach for a field of process-oriented ceramic practice that has been described as difficult to write about, lacking its own appropriate critical language, and difficult to categorize in standard ceramic terms. Within the scope of the study, it is aimed to contribute to the literature by examining the field of ceramics. The general screening model was taken as basis in the study and qualitative research methods and techniques were used.
