Evaluating the Concept of Talent in the Context of Operational Staff in Hotel Management
Abstract
Depending on the structure of the labor-intensive production of hotel management, key role played by the staff are expected to have some of the appropriate capabilities of the production of service. The important part of the service provided by employees in the hotel industry, therefore, to known the capabilities of employees is important for both, success of the business and the quality of the service. The aim of this study is to determine which talent groups are given more considerable attention in the process of hiring of the operational personal in the hotel industry. In this study “document examination" method was used. Research data was collected through one of the nationally broadcast newspaper’s Human Resources part by scanning job announcement for hotel businesses. It has been reached to 411 job announcement of operational staff by scanning. However, only in 203 of this announcements’ determined the specific requirements of the expecting competence; so that the research was carried out within the scope of this sample. According the results, technical skills in the tourism industry are getting less important over time and social-interpersonal and aesthetic skills are getting more important as it is also supporting by the literature. In social and interpersonal skills, team work and communication skills are encountered frequently, among the aesthetic talents, to be presentable and neat aesthetic speech (diction) skills are getting more important than the others.
