The Evolution of Academic Literature on Overtourism Analysis
Öz
This study examines the evolution of overtourism research through a bibliometric analysis of 425 articles published in Scopus between 2017 and 2025. The findings show that publication volume increased rapidly after 2018 and peaked in 2020. Overtourism is particularly associated with themes such as sustainability, destination management, and social carrying capacity. Western Europe and the United States were identified as leading contributors, while Africa and Central Asia remained underrepresented. Conducted using the R-based Bibliometrix package, the study highlights the need for sustainable and community-focused policy responses.
