As a result of increased international tourism arrivals stemmed from rapid improvements in transportation and communication technologies, overcrowding has been one of the most important issues affecting visitor satisfaction for theme parks. This study aims to explore the outcomes of overcrowding in the scope of theme parks with a holistic view by adopting qualitative method. Data was gathered with semi-structured interviews from 35 participants who visited theme parks located in Florida. Data was subjected to content analysis with NVivo software. The outcomes of overcrowding in theme park settings were categorized under four themes – namely, experiential outcomes, safety-related outcomes, social outcomes and capability-related outcomes. The study provides theoretical contributions since it is the first qualitative study examining the effect of overcrowding on theme park experience holistically and offers practical suggestions for sector representatives.
