The Industrial Revolution and the emergence of technological and social changes in European countries have been one of the most important developments affecting all branches of art in the 19th century Europe. With these changes taking place in the west culture, new trends emerged in the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, which were reflected in music as well as all branches of art. The first of these trends, which brought 20th century art to new dimensions, first appeared in the art of painting and then influenced other branches of art was Impressionism movement. In this study, the process of the birth of impressionism, the influence of impressionism in music, the Morceaux Imposé tradition that emerged at the Paris Conservatory between 1850 and 1950, the features of this tradition and the achievements of the composers who wrote Morceaux Imposé pieces for the flute repertory were investigated and the obtained findings were presented. In this regard, the Paris Conservatory, technical and structural change of the flute instrument, the works written by the impressionist composers for the flute, and the place and importance of the flute in the impressionist music was also mentioned.
