Alice Zeniter’in Kaybetme Sanatı Adlı Romanında Postkolonyal Hafıza, Sessizlik ve Anlatı

Alice Zeniter, 2017 yılında yayımlanan ve Goncourt des Lycéens Ödülü ile taçlanan Kaybetme Sanatı (L’Art de perdre) adlı romanında, Cezayir Bağımsızlık Savaşı sırasında Fransa’ya göç etmek zorunda kalan bir ailenin üç kuşağa yayılan suskunluğunu, bireysel ve toplumsal hafıza üzerinden irdeler. Anlatı, bağımsızlık mücadelesi sürecinde vatan hainliğiyle suçlanan ve Fransa’ya zorunlu göç eden Ali’nin suskunluğuyla başlar. Söz konusu suskunluk, oğlu Hamid’de geçmişi bilinçli olarak silen bir unutuşa dönüşürken, torunu Naïma’da ailenin bastırılmış gerçekliklerini bir anlatıya dönüştürme çabasına evrilir. Böylelikle roman, susturulmuş bir geçmişin sonraki kuşakların kimlik arayışında açtığı yaraları ve bu yaraların anlatı yoluyla iyileşme olanağını gözler önüne serer. Bu bağlamda, söz konusu yapıtta suskunluğun hafıza, kimlik ve aidiyet ekseninde üstlendiği işlev, Paul Ricœur’ün anlatı-hafıza ilişkisini etik bir boyutta ele alan kuramsal çerçevesi ile Maurice Halbwachs’ın toplumsal hafıza ve Homi K. Bhabha’nın yuvasızlık kavramları bağlamında irdelenecektir.

In her novel The Art of Losing (L’Art de perdre), published in 2017 and awarded the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens, Alice Zeniter examines the silence spanning three generations of a family forced to migrate to France during the Algerian War of Independence, through the lens of individual and collective memory. The narrative begins with the silence of Ali, who was accused of treason during the struggle for independence and was forced to emigrate to France. While this silence turns into a conscious forgetting in her son Hamid, it evolves into an effort to reconstruct the family's repressed realities into a narrative in her granddaughter Naïma. In this way, the novel reveals the wounds inflicted on subsequent generations by a silenced past in their search for identity, and the possibility of healing these wounds through narrative. In this context, the function of silence along the axes of memory, identity, and belonging in the novel in question will be examined through the theoretical frameworks of Paul Ricœur, who approaches the relationship between narrative and memory from an ethical perspective, alongside Maurice Halbwachs's concept of collective memory and Homi K. Bhabha's concept of unhomeliness.
