YARININ EBEVEYNLERİ: EVLAT EDİNME SIRASINDA BEKLEYEN AİLELERİN DENEYİMLERİ

Öz

Evlat edinme modeli, biyolojik ailesiyle yaşama şansı olmayan çocuklar için öncelikli görülen aile temelli bakım modelidir. Bu araştırmada, evlat edinme hizmetine başvurusu onaylanmış ve sırada bekleyen ailelerin deneyimlerini keşfetmek amaçlanmaktadır. Nitel araştırma deseni tercih edilmiştir ve amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya, Ankara ilinde evlat edinme sırasında bekleyen 6 çift (toplam 12 kişi) katılmıştır. Katılımcılarla derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Araştırma verileri, Nisan-Temmuz 2024 tarihleri arasında yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Görüşmelerde bireylerin evlat edinmeye karar verme süreçlerinden başlanarak tüm aşamalarda deneyimledikleri psikolojik, duygusal ve sosyal etkilere odaklanılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularında bekleme süresinin uzunluğu, uygun çocuk sayısının azlığı ve taleplerin fazlalığıyla ilişkilendirilmiştir. Baş etme stratejileri arasında en yaygın olanları; aile desteği, benzer deneyimleri paylaşan ailelerle iletişim ve sosyal medya aracılığıyla dayanışmadır. Uzun bekleme süresi ebeveyn adaylarının içsel yolculuklarında stres yaratırken, bazı katılımcılar bu dönemi aile bağlarını güçlendirme fırsatı olarak görmüştür. Ayrıca, evlat edinmenin doğal bir aile kurma yöntemi olarak kabul edilmesi ve kamu bilgilendirme çalışmalarının desteklenmesi gerektiği ifade edilmiştir.

TOMORROW'S PARENTS: THE EXPERIENCES OF FAMILIES WAITING DURING THE ADOPTION PROCESS

Abstract

The adoption model is a family-based care model prioritized for children who have no chance of living with their biological families. This study aims to explore the experiences of families whose adoption applications have been approved and are currently waiting in the adoption queue. A qualitative research design was adopted, and purposive sampling was employed. The study included 6 couples (a total of 12 individuals) who were waiting in the adoption process in Ankara. In-depth interviews were conducted with the participants. The data were collected between April and July 2024 using a semi-structured interview form. The interviews focused on participants’ psychological, emotional, and social experiences throughout the various stages of the adoption process, starting from their decision to adopt. The findings of the study indicate that the prolonged waiting period is associated with the limited number of eligible children and the high volume of adoption requests. Among the most common coping strategies reported by participants were receiving support from family, connecting with other families who had similar experiences, and engaging in solidarity through social media platforms. While the waiting period creates stress for prospective parents, some participants viewed it as an opportunity to strengthen family bonds. Additionally, it was emphasized that adoption should be recognized as a natural method of family formation, and public awareness campaigns should be supported.
