The subject of this article is the architectural and ornamental features of Çavuşoğlu Mansion in Nazımbey Yeniköy, Ceyhan district of Adana. It is seen that the mansion was built in the first half of the 20th century and has a plan type with an inner sofa. The upper floors of the building have not been accessed, as it is in a dilapidated state today. There are also murals in the mansion consisting of the entrance, mezzanine and cihannuma decks. The murals seen on the ground floor of the mansion and in the room on the facade facing the village mosque are composed of ship depiction, prayer rug, rifle and herbal decorations. No information about the Masters who made the decorations has been reached, but it can be said that these may have been painted by local masters. It is also noteworthy that the murals can only be seen in one room of the mansion. The presence of such a structure in a village in a rural settlement area and the absence of another similar structure in that village suggest that the mansion may belong to the village Agha. The structure shows similar features in terms of plan and material with some houses in the center of Adana and Ceyhan. Wall traces of a large courtyard to the south of the mansion are a sign of family privacy. The house is the most important kind of shelter that human beings have developed. After a period of time, certain types of houses appeared in every region of Anatolia, depending on the geographical conditions of the region. The traditional cultural elements that affect society life at every stage have also affected the architecture of societies. This has caused architectural understanding to differ from society to society and even in different sections of the same society. The structure studied is located in Nazımbey Yeniköy, Ceyhan district of Adana. The mansion was identified and examined in 2019 as a part of the research entitled “survey of Adana province and districts from the Middle Ages to the present day”. First of all, photographs of the mansion were taken, measurements were taken and necessary notes were recorded by making on-site investigations. It was determined that this mansion was of the traditional Turkish House plan type. Also notable are the murals seen in one room of the mansion. The structure, Ceyhan and its surroundings, can be shown as the only examples in terms of plan and ornamentation. In this context, the fact that there is a host that has not been published or researched anywhere before has been an important factor in our preparation of this study. The hand-drawn decorations inside this mansion, which needs to be preserved and repaired, are also remarkable. Similar decorations can be seen in many parts of Anatolia. However, the fact that it is located in a village and there are no similar ones in the vicinity increases the importance of this mansion.
