Öz

Objective: University students' level of understanding of environmental impacts, their concerns about climate change, and their hopes for preventing these changes are of great importance for the sustainability of the future. This study aims to assess university students' awareness of their ecological footprint, their level of worry about climate change, and their level of hope regarding the prevention of climate change. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on university students. A total of 1,095 university students who accepted to participate in the study formed the study group. The first section of the questionnaire form included participants' sociodemographic characteristics and ecological footprint awareness, The second section included the Climate Change Worry Scale, the third section included the Climate Change Hope Scale, and the final section of the questionnaire included the Awareness Scale for Reducing Ecological Footprint. Results: A moderate level positive correlation was found between the scores obtained from the Climate Change Hope Scale and the Awareness Scale for Reducing Ecological Footprint. In Further analysis revealed that women and whose family income was minimum wage or higher had a higher awareness of reducing their ecological footprint. Conclusion: It is important to work with public and private sector organizations and civil society organizations under the leadership of universities to increase consumers' awareness of reducing their ecological footprint. Using the power of the internet and social media to increase interaction can enable reaching more people.
