Öz

The economic, social and cultural changes in society affect vastly our consumption habits. These changes cause marketing experts to determine new targets. One of the most popular targets of today’s markets are obviously children. Children nowadays are confronted daily with television, internet and other means of communication and appear as individuals who are able to make their own consumption decisions using the information they obtained from these sources. This fact is also reflected in the purchase choices of families. Many familes put the purchase choices of their children first instead of giving first rank to their own choices. In this context the patriarchal and matriarchal family structure is changing and leading towards a “pediarchal” family structure. With this study I will briefly mention the changing family structure and aim via a survey to evaluate the influence of children in the purchase decision of the family in different products and categories, and the perspective of the families to their children and the related consumption in respect of different educational levels, income and gender.
