This study seeks to evaluate the historical journey and impact of media ecology, which has acquired greater influence in Turkey since the 2000s. Its scope sets off in 1968 with the employment of the term “media ecology” in a conference by Neil Postman on English education. It continues with studies on media ecology and their reflection on the studies of communication in Turkey. The tradition of media ecology has not been well-received in Turkey due to the dominance of mainstream and critical theoretical works in the field of media and communications since its beginnings in the 1960s. The impact of media ecology, however, has increased over the past ten years through the contribution of graduate studies. After an evaluation of the media ecology studies in Turkey, this study provides a bibliography of theses conducted on the great names of this field in Turkey as well as a list of translated books associated with this tradition.
