INHERITANCE OF RESISTANCE TO ASCOCHYTA BLIGHT AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO SEED SIZE IN CHICKPEA (Cicer arietinum L.)
Öz
Ascochyta blight caused by Ascochyta rabiei (Pass.) Lab. is the most important disease of chickpea worldwide. In kabuli chickpea germplasm, blight resistance seems to be associated with small seed size. In this study, inheritance of Ascochyta blight resistance an its relationship to seed size were studied in eight crosses between three resistant but small-seeded germplasm lines and four susceptible but large-seeded cultivars of chickpea. F1, F2 and F3 progenies were used. Two recessive genes conferring resistance to Ascochyta blight have been postulated. Significant negative correlations between Ascochyta blight resistance and seed size were observed. Correlations ranged from - 0.25* to - 0.52** for eight populations, and - 0.38** when ali populations were combined.
