Güneydoğu Anadolu’da Kral Midas

Öz

Frig Kralı Midas, onu inanılmaz ölçüde zengin, açgözlü ve biraz da
aptalca bir doğulu monark imajında sunan Yunan mitolojisi aracılığıyla
modern bilince girmiştir. Apollo’nun ona verdiği cezadan dolayı eşekkulaklı
olması yanı sıra1
öncelikle “altın dokunuşu”u2
ile hatırlanmaktadır. Bununla
birlikte, Kral II. Sargon’un Asurca belgeleri keşfedildiğinden beri, Yunan
edebi kaynaklarındaki Midas’la, Muşki’li Kral Mita’nın özdeşliği kabul
görmektedir (Winckler 1898). Hala bunu kabul etmeyen uzmanlar olduğu
halde (örn. Laminger-Pascher 1989, 24), Friglerle Muşkilerin özdeşliği
böylelikle sağlanmıştır. Kral Midas’ın tarihsel gerçekliği, Eski Frigçe
yazıtlarda adı bulunduğunda çok daha güçlü hale gelmiştir (Brixhe ve
Lejeune 1984, M-01a). Özelde Frigya, genelde Anadolu arkeolojisi
çalışmalarındaki gelişme, Frig krallığının politik gücünü ve hem doğu
Yunan dünyasındaki hem de Anadolulu komşuları üzerindeki etkisini
doğrulamaktadır. Tarihsel Midas’ın Yunan edebi metinlerinde nasıl efsanevi
ve mitolojik bir karaktere dönüştüğü ve Yunan metinlerinin Frig gerçeğini
ne kadar yansıttığı tam olarak cevaplandırılamamış sorulardır.
