Analyzing Geography Questions in Social Studies, Science and Primary School Teaching Field Knowledge Tests According to Subject Distribution

Abstract

The present study was conducted to determine the distribution of geography questions asked by the Student Selection and Placement Center (SSPC) in the Social Sciences, Science, and Primary School Teaching Field Knowledge Test (TFKT) exams conducted between 2015 and 2021 according to the subjects of geography. This study was carried out with a document analysis method of qualitative research design. According to the findings, it was determined that 161 questions were asked from geography subjects in the Social Studies, Science, and Primary School Teaching TFKT exams between 2015-2021. When the distribution of these questions according to branches and geography subjects is examined; 79 questions were asked in the Social Studies test in the TFKT exams, 45.6% of these questions were physical geography, 38% were human and economic geography, 5.1% were political geography, and 11.4% were geography of countries; in the Science test, 35 questions were asked, 61% of these questions were related to physical geography, 31.5% to human and economic geography, 6% to political geography; in the Primary School Teaching test, 47 questions were asked, 70.2% of these questions were related to physical geography, 25.5% to human and economic geography, and 4.3% to political geography. Although questions related to physical geography subjects were predominant in all three branches, it was also found that fewer questions were asked from map knowledge subjects. In line with these findings, it is recommended that more questions should be asked about map knowledge, which is the essence of geography, in the TFKT exams and the distribution of questions should be made according to the weights of the geography subjects in the Social Sciences, Science and Primary School Teaching undergraduate program.

Sosyal Bilgiler, Fen Bilimleri ve Sınıf Öğretmenliği Öğretmenliği Alan Bilgisi Sınavlarındaki Coğrafya Sorularının Konu Dağılımlarına Göre İncelenmesi

Öz

Bu araştırma Öğrenci Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi (ÖSYM) tarafından 2015-2021 yılları arasında gerçekleştirilen Sosyal Bilgiler, Fen Bilimleri ve Sınıf Öğretmenliği Öğretmenlik Alan Bilgisi Testi sınavlarında sorulan coğrafya sorularının coğrafyanın konularına göre dağılımını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma nitel araştırma deseninde doküman incelemesi yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre 2015-2021 yılları arasındaki Sosyal Bilgiler, Fen Bilimleri ve Sınıf Öğretmenliği ÖABT sınavlarında coğrafya konularından 161 sorulduğu belirlenmiş. Bu soruların branşlara ve coğrafya konularına göre dağılımları incelendiğinde; ÖBAT sınavlarında Sosyal Bilgiler testinde 79 tane soru sorulduğu, bu soruların % 45,6’sının fiziki coğrafya, % 38’inin beşeri ve ekonomik coğrafya, %5,1’inin siyasi coğrafya, ve % 11,4’ünün ülkeler coğrafyası; Fen Bilimleri testinde 35 tane soru sorulduğu, bu soruların % 61’inin fiziki coğrafya, % 31,5’inin beşeri ve ekonomik coğrafya, % 6’sının siyasi coğrafya; Sınıf Öğretmenliği testinde ise 47 soru sorulduğu, bu soruların % 70,2’si fiziki coğrafya, % 25,5’i beşeri ve ekonomik coğrafya, % 4,3’ünün siyasi coğrafya konuları ile ilişkili olduğu belirlenmiştir. Her üç branşta fiziki coğrafya konularıyla ilişkili sorular ağırlıkta olsa da, harita bilgisi konularından az soru sorulduğu ulaşılan diğer bulgulardandır. Ulaşılan bu bulgular doğrultusunda ÖABT sınavlarında coğrafyanın özü olan harita bilgisi konularıyla ilgili daha fazla soru sorulması ve soru dağılımlarının Sosyal Bilgiler, Fen Bilimleri ve Sınıf Öğretmenliği lisans programında yer alan coğrafya konularının ağırlıklarına göre yapılması önerilmektedir.
