Adana kentinde Kırmızı palmiyeböceği, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Curculionoidae: Dryophthoridae) üzerinde entomopatojen nematod türü: Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Poinar) (Nematoda: Heterorhabditidae)

Kırmızı palmiyeböceği (KPB), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Curculionoidae: Dryophthoridae) Adana kentinde 2007 yılında süs bitkisi olarak yetiştirilen yalancı hurma ağaçlarında (Phoenix canariensis Hort. ex Chabaud) ciddi zararlı olmuştur. Zararın saptanmasını takiben, değişik mücadele çalışmalarına başlanılmıştır ve hala sürdürülmektedir. Bu çalışmada, entomopatojen nematod (EPN), Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Poinar) (Nematoda: Heterorhabditidae), moleküler ve morfolojik olarak tanımlanmış ve KPB üzerinde 2008-2009 yıllarında saptanan doğal enfeksiyonları değerlendirilmiştir. EPN nedeniyle KPB larvalarında mevsimsel ölüm oranları, 2008 yılında yüksek (% 72.37); 2009 yılında ise düşük (% 22.06) bulunmuştur. EPN, her iki yılda pupa popülasyonlarında % 80’nin üzerinde ölüme neden olmuştur. Ergin populasyonlarında (dişi ve erkek) ölüm oranları, her iki yılda % 10’dan daha düşük bulunmuştur. 2010 yılından bu yana çok az sayıda hurma ağacının ölmesi (toplam 4 ağaç), yürütülen tüm mücadele çalışmaları kadar, EPN enfeksiyonlarının da KPB’nin baskı altına alınmasındaki önemli rolünü gösterebilir.

An entomopathogenic nematode species on the red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Curculionoidae: Dryophthoridae) in Adana Province, Turkey: Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Poinar) (Nematoda: Heterorhabditidae)

The destructive infestation of the red palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Curculionoidae: Dryophthoridae) caused serious damage on the Canary Island date palm trees (Phoenix canariensis hort. Ex. Chabaud) grown as ornamentals in Adana province, Turkey in 2007. Following the discovery of the pest damage, various control efforts have been carried out in Adana. In this work, molecular and morphometric identifications of the entomopathogenic nematode (EPN), Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Poinar) (Nematoda: Heterorhabditidae) are given, and its natural infestations on the weevil individuals in 2008-2009 were evaluated. Seasonal mortality rates by the EPN in the larval populations of RPW were high (72.37%) in 2008 but low (22.06%) in 2009. EPN resulted in a significant mortality rate over 80% in the pupae populations in both years. Mortality rates in adult populations (female and male) were with less than 10% in both years. A few infestations (totally, four cut trees) on the date palm trees have been found since 2010 may indicate that the natural infestations of the EPN as well as the all control efforts have an important role in suppressing the RPW populations.
