VYGOTSKY’NİN DÜŞÜNCE VE DİL GELİŞİMİ ÜZERİNE GÖRÜŞLERİ: PİAGET’E ELEŞTİREL BİR BAKIŞ

Öz

Bu makalenin amacı, Vygotsky'in çocukta düşünce ve dil gelişimi üzerine görüşlerini incelemek; Vygotsky'nin, Piaget'in çocuk psikolojisi alanına kazandırdığı genetik modele eleştirilerini sunarak, çocuğun bilişsel gelişimine sosyo-kültürel temelli bir bakış açısı kazandırmaktır. Bu makalede Vygotsky'in "Düşünce ve Dil" (1965) adlı kitabının özeti niteliğinde olup, Vygotsky'in Piaget ile ayrıldığı temel noktalar olan, "çocukta benmerkezcilik, çocukta olgunlaşma ve eğitimin rolü, çocukta kavram gelişimi" ana başlıkları altında Vygotsky'in eğitim alanına getirdiği en büyük katkılardan biri olan "proksimal gelişim alanı" kavramı incelenmiştir. Vygotsky'e göre konuşmanın amacı, bebeklikten itibaren iletişim kurmak olduğundan, çocukta ilkin otistik düşünce ve konuşma yoktur, çocuk en başından itibaren sosyaldir. Bu nedenle Vygotsky düşünce ve dil gelişimi modelini, Piaget’in yaptığı “otistik, benmerkezci, sosyal” sıralamanın tersine, “sosyal, benmerkezci ve içsel konuşma” şeklinde kurmuş; düşünce ve konuşmanın gelişiminde, bireysellikten sosyalliğe değil, sosyallikten bireyselliğe doğru bir gidişatın olduğunu belirtmiştir. Sonuç olarak Vygotsky, bebeklikten itibaren dış gerçeklikten kopuk ve ilkel addedilen çocuk düşüncesinin, belirli bir amaca, yani iletişim kurmaya ve sosyalleşmeye yönelik olduğunu göstererek çocuk düşüncesine hak ettiği konumu kazandırmış; verilen eğitimin çocuğun olgunlaşma düzeyinin üzerinde olduğunda çocuğun yardımla gösterdiği başarıya dikkat çekerek, eğitim metotlarının kökten değişime uğramasına vesile olmuştur.

THE ARGUMENTS OF VYGOTSKY ON THOUGHT AND LANGUAGE: A CRITICAL VIEW TO PIAGET

Öz

The aim of this article is to examine the arguments of Vygotsky on thought and language development of child, and to provide a socio-cultural oriented framework on cognitive development of child by presenting Vygotsky’s criticism to Piaget’s genetic model. This article summarizes one of the Vygotsky’s books, “Thought and Language” (1965) and is divided into three sections: egocentrism of child, the role of maturation and education on the child development, and concept development of child. Also, Vygotsky’s one of the best known contributions to developmental psychology, the concept of “zone of proximal development” is examined. The aim of speech, for Vygotsky, is to enable communication between child and his/her social environment since infancy. On contrary to Piaget’s thought and language development model “autistic, egocentric, social”; Vygotsky’s model consists of three consecutive phases: “social, egocentric, and inner” speech. Therefore for Vygotsky, the direction of thought and language development is to reach individualism through sociability, not the other way around. As a result, Vygotsky gave the thought of child the position it deserves. He also caused a radical change on the methods of education, pointing that child can be successful with help when the level of education is higher than his/her level of maturation.
