İNGİLİZCE’DE RELATIVE CLAUSE KONUSUNUN ÖĞRETİMİNDE BİLGİSAYAR DESTEKLİ ÖĞRETİM İLE GELENEKSEL YÖNTEMİN ÖĞRENCİ BAŞARISI ÜZERİNE ETKİSİNİN KARŞILAŞTIRILMASI

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, İngilizce’de ‘Relative Clause’ konusunun öğretilmesinde, öğrenci başarısı üzerinde bilgisayar destekli öğretim ile geleneksel yöntem arasında herhangi bir farklılık olup olmadığını belirlemektir. Araştırma Elazığ Özel Bilgem Koleji’nde 8. sınıflarda okuyan öğrenciler üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Bu deneysel çalışmada, bir deney bir de kontrol grubu bulunmaktadır. Deney ve kontrol gruplarının her birinde 14’er öğrenci olmak üzere toplam 28 öğrenci bulunmaktadır. Araştırma dört hafta sürmüştür. Deney grubunda bilgisayar destekli öğretim yapılırken, kontrol grubunda geleneksel yöntem izlenmiştir. Araştırma ile İngilizce dersinde Relative Clause konusuna ait bilgi ve kavrama basamağında hedeflenen davranışlara ulaşmada deney grubuna uygulanan bilgisayar destekli dil öğretimi daha etkili bulunmuştur. Bu sonuçtan hareketle, bilgisayar destekli dil öğretiminin sadece özel okullarda değil, aynı zamanda devlet okullarında da uygulanması; sınıflarda sadece ders kitabı ve yazı tahtasının temel araç olarak kullanılmaması; öğrencilerin motivasyonlarının da sağlanması için bilgisayarların kullanılması ve bilgisayar destekli dil öğretiminin öğretmenlere tanıtılması gibi önerilerde bulunulmaktadır.

A COMPARISON OF COMPUTER ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TRADITIONAL METHOD ON STUDENT’S ACHIEVEMENT IN TEACHING RELATIVE CLAUSES

Öz

This study was carried out to show whether there is a difference between the Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and the traditional method on students’ achievement in teaching relative clause. The subjects involved in this study were Elazığ Bilgem Private High School eighth grade students. The study included two groups, one was experimental and the other was control group. Each group consists of 14 students. The results from the research indicate that CALL used in experimental group was more efficient in reaching the objectives at knowledge and comprehension levels of cognitive domain. Experimental students were found more successful in learning “relative clause” than controlled students. An analysis of the students’ scores showed that CALL used in experimental group was more effective in reaching the objectives of the whole test than the traditional method used in control group. Findings from the research reveal that CALL was more efficient and effective in teaching relative clauses than the traditional method. From those results, it is proposed that CALL should be used not only in colleges but also at state schools. The course book and board should not be the main materials for teaching English as a foreign language. To motivate the students, the teachers should use computers and in-service education about Computer Assisted Language Learning should be provided for English teachers.
