Diş Hekimliği ve Tıp Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin Diş Hekimliği Mesleğine Yönelik Algılarının Değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışmada amacımız tıp ve diş hekimliği öğrencilerinin diş hekimliği mesleğine yönelik algılarını değerlendirmektir.
Yöntem: Kesitsel, tanımlayıcı bir araştırmadır. Araştırma anketi 28 sorudan oluşmaktadır. Araştırmaya Sivas Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği ve Tıp Fakültesi öğrencileri katılmıştır. Anketin ilk 11 sorusu sosyodemografik verileri ve meslekle ilgili soruları içermekteydi. Anketin kalan 17 sorusu Diş Hekimliği Meslek Algısı (DHMA) ölçeğidir. Ölçek ilk defa Buldur tarafından geliştirilmiş olup beşli likert tipinde cevaplanmakta ve üç alt boyuttan (statü, insan ve bilimsellik faktörleri) oluşmaktadır. Araştırma evrenini 1991 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Öğrencilere anket linki online olarak öğrenci platformu aracılığı ile iletildi. Çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 352 öğrenci araştırmaya dahil edildi.
Bulgular: Katılımcıların (N=352) %50,0 (n=176)’u tıp fakültesi, %50,0 (n=176)’ı diş hekimliği fakültesi öğrencileriydi. Öğrencilerin okuduğu bölümü çalışma koşullarının rahatlığından dolayı seçme durumu diş hekimliği öğrencilerinde tıp fakültesi öğrencilerine göre anlamlı seviyede daha yüksekti (p<0,001). Öğrencilerin mesleklerini seçme nedenleri sorgulandığında; iş garantisi olması, insanlara yardım etme ve bilimsel araştırmalarda bulunma isteği cevabını verenlerin yüzdesi tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinde diş hekimliği öğrencilerine göre anlamlı seviyede daha yüksekti (p<0,05). Okuduğu bölümden memnuniyet düzeyi tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinde diş hekimliği öğrencilerine daha yüksek olarak saptandı (p=0,004).
Diş hekimliği meslek algısı ölçeği ve alt ölçekleri fakültelere göre karşılaştırıldı. Statü faktörü alt boyutu puan ortalaması açısından tıp fakültesi öğrencileri (20,5±5,3) ve diş hekimliği fakültesi (20,9±4,8) öğrencileri arasında fark yoktu (p=0,392). Toplam ölçek puanı (p=0,001), insan faktörü alt boyutu(p<0,001), bilimsel faktör alt boyutu (p<0,001) ortalamaları diş hekimliği öğrencilerinde tıp öğrencilerinden anlamlı derecede daha yüksekti. Klinik öncesi öğrencilerin DHMAÖ toplam puan ve alt boyut puan ortalamaları klinik öğrencilerinden anlamlı derecede yüksekti (p<0,05). Okuduğu bölümden memnun olan öğrencilerin DHMA ölçeğinin toplam puan ve alt boyut puan ortalaması anlamlı olarak memnun olmayan öğrencilere göre daha yüksekti(p<0,05).
Sonuç: Meslek seçiminde çalışma koşullarının rahatlığı, iş olanağı, insanlara yardım etme ve bilimsel araştırmalarda bulunma isteği etkilidir. Diş hekimliği mesleğini algılamada mesleğin insani ve bilimsel
yönü dikkat çekmekte olup bu mesleği seçen öğrencilerin öncelikli tercih sebebi olmaktadır.

Evaluation of Dental and Medical Students' Perceptions Toward the Dental Profession

Öz

Aim: To evaluate dental and medical students' perceptions toward the dental profession.
Methods: It was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The study was conducted in Sivas Cumhuriyet
University Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Medicine. The data collection tools were General Data Form, which asked sociodemographic questions and reasons for choosing a profession, and the Dental
Profession Perceptions Scale (DPPS). The scale was developed by Buldur for the first time and is answered in a five-point Likert type and consists of three sub-dimensions (status, human and scientific
factors). The population of the research consists of 1991 students. Students were emailed the survey link through the student portal. The study included 352 students who agreed to participate in the study.
Results: 50.0 % (n=176) of the participants (N=352) were medical faculty students, while 50.0 % (n=176) were dental students. Dental students were substantially more interested than medical students
to choose a department based on working conditions (p<0.001). Due to career certainty, a desire to help others, and a willingness to participate in scientific research, medical students pick a profession at
a considerably higher rate than dental students (p<0,05). The level of satisfaction with the department was found to be higher in medical students than in dental students (p=0,004). In terms of DPPS status factor mean score, there was no difference between medical faculty (20,5±5,3) and dental students (20,9±4,8) (p=0,392). Total scale score (p=0.015), human factor (p<0.001), and scientific factor (p<0.001) mean scores in dental students were significantly higher than in medical students. The total and sub-dimension mean DPPS scores of preclinical students were considerably higher than those of clinical students (p<0.05). The total score and sub-dimension mean score of the DPPS scale of the students who were satisfied with the department were significantly higher than the students who were not satisfied (p<0.05).
Conclusions: When choosing a profession, it is important to consider the comfort of working conditions, career certainty, willingness to help people, and willingness to conduct scientific research. It has been
demonstrated that the scientific and human aspects of the dental profession are effective when choosing a profession.
