USE OF BIO MATERIALS IN TEXTILE AND FASHION DESIGN WITH AN EXAMPLE APPLICATION

Öz

This study focuses on the environmental issues caused by lifestyle and consumption habits, investigating the potential of sustainable design to address these problems. The research explores innovative approaches such as bio-based textiles, bioplastics, and biofabrication production, highlighting the importance of bi-material usage and circular production processes in response to the increasing demand for eco-friendly applications. In the first section of the study, the areas of use of bi-materials are examined in detail, focusing on fibers and surfaces used in textile and fashion design. In the second section, tests for air permeability, abrasion, and moisture retention were conducted on samples made from three different bio-based materials. During the application phase, a design board consisting of five visual and technical drawings along with a story panel was prepared to evaluate the adaptability of these samples into garments. Additionally, one selected design model was produced to concretely demonstrate the real-life usability and potential of bi-materials. Among the bi-materials obtained in the study, the (b) coded sample was determined to be the most advantageous option for durability-demanding applications due to its high abrasion resistance, low air permeability, and flexible structure. On the other hand, the (a) coded sample, with its rigid structure, posed difficulties in the sewing process and was considered less practical due to its limited water absorption capacity. These findings emphasize the potential of bi-materials in sustainable design approaches and how they can be utilized as eco-friendly alternatives.

TEKSTİL VE MODA TASARIMINDA KULLANILAN BİYOMATERYALLERE ÖRNEK BİR UYGULAMA

Öz

Bu çalışma, günlük yaşam tarzlarının ve tüketim alışkanlıklarının yol açtığı çevresel sorunlara odaklanarak, sürdürülebilir tasarımın bu sorunlara çözüm üretme potansiyelini araştırmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında, biyoesaslı tekstiller, biyoplastikler ve biyofabrikasyon üretim gibi yenilikçi yaklaşımlar ele alınmış, biyomalzeme kullanımı ve döngüsel üretim süreçlerinin çevre dostu uygulamalara yönelik artan talep doğrultusunda taşıdığı önem vurgulanmıştır. Çalışmanın birinci bölümünde, biyomalzemelerin kullanım alanları detaylı şekilde incelenmiş, tekstil ve moda tasarımında kullanılan lifler ve yüzeyler ele alınmıştır. İkinci bölümde, farklı biyokökenli malzemelerle hazırlanmış üç farklı reçeteye ait numuneler üzerinde hava geçirgenliği, aşınma ve nem tutma testleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Uygulama aşamasında, bu numunelerin giysilere uyarlanabilirliğini değerlendirmek amacıyla beş adet görünüm, teknik çizim ve hikâye panosunun yer aldığı bir tasarım paftası hazırlanmıştır. Ayrıca, seçilen bir tasarım modeli üretilerek biyomalzemelerin gerçek hayattaki kullanılabilirliği ve potansiyeli somut bir biçimde gösterilmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında elde edilen biyomateryaller arasında, (b) kodlu numune yüksek aşınma dayanıklılığı, düşük hava geçirgenliği ve esnek yapısıyla dayanıklılık gerektiren uygulamalar için en avantajlı seçenek olarak belirlenmiştir. (a) Kodlu numune ise sert yapısı ile dikim sürecinde zorluklar yaşatmakta ve sınırlı su emme kapasitesi nedeniyle daha az kullanışlı bir malzeme olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bu bulgular, biyomalzemelerin sürdürülebilir tasarım yaklaşımlarındaki potansiyelini ve çevre dostu alternatifler olarak nasıl değerlendirilebileceğini vurgulamaktadır.
