Comparison Of German And Turkish Written Works Of Bilingual Turkish Youth (14-17 Years) in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

The aim of this study is to analyze the written language skills of adolescents aged 14 to 17 residing in Germany who have been raised bilingually in Turkish and German. The objective is to assess the proficiency of individuals who have acquired Turkish as a heritage language in Germany by measuring their proficiency in both Turkish and German in written expression, and to uncover their proficiency levels in both languages and potential cross-linguistic interactions by comparing written texts. Additionally, the research aims to propose recommendations for the curriculum concerning Turkish education abroad. The research methodology involves document analysis and content analysis, both qualitative research methods, as well as regression analysis. The study population comprises students residing in the state of North Rhine Westphalia in Germany, with a sample size of 30 students. The “6+1 Analytical Writing and Evaluation Model“ was employed as the assessment tool.

The results of the research indicate that the written language skills of students residing in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, is generally average, with a slight inclination towards inadequacy. Specifically in German, the written expression was assessed as intermediate, trending towards partial proficiency. It is observed that word choice and sentence fluency is weaker in Turkish compared to German. The results indicate a significant influence of both languages on each other, accounting for 85% of the observed impact. Based on these findings, the study suggests the need to support Turkish education in both public and private institutions, aiming to encourage students' heritage and potential in both languages.

Almanya Kuzey Ren Vestfalya Eyaletinde İki Dilli Türk Gençlerin (14-17 Yaş) Almanca ve Türkçe Yazılı Ürünlerinin Karşılaştırılması

Bu araştırma Almanya’da yaşayan 14 ila 17 yaşında olan Türkçe ve Almanca olmak üzere iki dilli büyüyen gençlerin yazılı anlatımlarını incelemeyi hedeflemektedir. Yurt dışında, Almanya’da Türkçeyi miras dil olarak edinen kesimin dördüncü nesilde Türkçe ve Almanca yazılı anlatımda hâkimiyetleri ölçülerek durum değerlendirmesi amaçlanmış, yazılı metinlerin karşılaştırılmasıyla her iki dildeki yetilerin hangi düzeyde olduğu ve birbirinden muhtemel etkileşimin ortaya çıkarılması hedeflenmiştir. Ayrıca bununla ilgili yurt dışında Türkçe eğitimi ile ilgili müfredat için önerilerin sunulması gayesi güdülmüştür. Bu araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi ve içerik analizi kullanılmış, regresyon analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın evreni Almanya Kuzey Ren Westfalya eyaletinde yaşayan öğrencilerdir. Araştırmanın örneklemi ise 30 öğrencidir. Ölçme aracı olarak “6+1 Analitik Yazma ve Değerlendirme Modeli” kullanılmıştır.

​Bu araştırmada Almanya Kuzey Ren Vestfalya’da yaşayan öğrencilerin yazılı anlatımlarının orta seviyede olduğu fakat eğilimin kısmen yetersize doğru olduğun tespit edilmiştir. Almancada ise yine yazılı anlatımın orta seviyede olduğu saptanmış fakat eğilimin daha çok kısmen yeterliye doğru ilerlediği tespit edilmiştir. Bununla ilgili Türkçede kelime seçimi ve cümle akıcılığı Almancaya nazaran daha düşük seviyededir. Elde edilen sonuca göre her iki dil birbirini %85 etkilemektedir. Bu verilerden hareketle Türkçe eğitimin gerek resmi gerek özel kurumlarda desteklenmesi gerektiği ve öğrencilerdeki bu mirası, potansiyeli teşvik etmek gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.
