Logistic Performance Index, Exports and Economic Growth Relationship from Covid-19 Perspective: Panel Data Approach

Öz

The Covid-19 outbreak caused logistics operations and production to be interrupted. The resulting effects may differ within the context of companies. In addition to negative effects, there is also positive effects occurred. Digitalization of the logistics industry has contributed to the formation of sustainable and robust supply chains, and with globalization, logistics has taken on important roles in the supply chain process. In this study, the impact of logistics performance index, foreign direct investments and exports on economic growth was analyzed with a panel data approach, using biannual data of 108 countries between 2010 and 2022. The effects of Covid-19 were analyzed with help of the fixed effects model. Logistics performance index, foreign direct investments and exports have positive and significant effects on economic growth. In addition, it has been observed that the component with the highest impact among the sub-components of logistics performance index is quality of infrastructure investments. Accordingly, it is very important that the telecommunication and transportation infrastructure quality of the countries is good in terms of monitoring the process of transporting the products to the consumer. It was observed that the increase in the logistics performance index after Covid-19 had a greater impact on economic growth.

Covid-19 Perspektifinden Lojistik Performans Endeksi, İhracat ve Ekonomik Büyüme İlişkisi: Panel Veri Yaklaşımı

Öz

Covid-19 salgını lojistik operasyonların ve üretimin kesilmesine sebebiyet vermiştir. Ortaya çıkan etkiler firmalar bağlamında farklılaşabilmektedir. Olumsuz etkilerin yanı sıra yeniliklere duyulan ihtiyaç doğrultusunda olumlu etkilerin de meydana geldiği görülmektedir. Özelikle lojistik sektörünün dijitalleşmesi ve veri odaklı çözümler üretmeye odaklanması ile sürdürülebilir ve sağlam tedarik zincirlerinin oluşumuna katkı sağlamıştır. Küreselleşmeyle birlikte lojistik sektörü sadece mamulleri taşımaktan çıkıp tedarik zinciri sürecinde önemli roller üstlenmiştir. Lojistik altyapı yatırımları; tedarik, taşıma, satış ve depolama işleyişini verimli hale getirmektedir. Bu çalışmada, 108 ülkenin 2010-2022 arası çift yıllık verileri kullanılarak lojistik performans endeksi, doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar ve ihracatın ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisi panel veri yaklaşımıyla analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada sabit etkiler modeli yardımıyla Covid-19’un da etkileri analiz edilmiştir. Tahmin edilen modellerde; lojistik performans endeksi, doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar ve ihracatın ekonomik büyüme üzerinde pozitif ve anlamlı etkileri bulunmuştur. Ayrıca lojistik performans endeksi alt bileşenlerinden etkisi en yüksek olan bileşenin altyapı yatırımları kalitesi olduğu gözlenmiştir. Çalışmada Covid-19 sonrası lojistik performans endeksindeki artışın ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisinin daha fazla olduğu gözlenmiştir.
