ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR THE SHELTERING NEEDS OF THE REFUGEES
Öz
We are in need of finding some innovative and alternative solutions for the constructions materials because of the remarkably rising problems of the modern world, including the newly-emerged energy crisis, environmental inconveniences at the global scale, international economic fluctuations, rapidly increasing population rates and the regional immigration issues in particular. Among the most favorite and considerable alternatives, prefabricated architecture appears as one of the most affordable and feasible ones. In the prefabrication process, all or most of the components, materials and systems are manufactured offsite and then brought to and assembled at the intended construction site. Thanks to its peculiar features, it is also deemed quite viable, healthy, hygienic and economic for the dwellings of the refugees at the border areas. Although the aforementioned prefabricated architecture is not such a new trend in architecture, there is no doubt that it is becoming more and more popular around the world on account of many advantages which include sustainability, flexibility, affordability, mobility, portability, reduced costs, improved energy uses, environmental coherence and consistency. In this study, we aim at looking through its outstanding advantages and disadvantages, if any, with a particular emphasis on its utilization for the sheltering needs of the refugee communities in Turkey.
