TJAA aims to publish astronomy and astrophysics studies. TJAA will also be a common ground for proceedings (workshops, schools, meeting etc.) of these subjects especially proceedings of National Astronomy Conferences known as UAK.

It publishes original peer-reviewed national and international full-length original scientific research articles semi-annually in June and December for the fields of astronomy, astrophysics and space sciences, preferably written in English or Turkish. Articles are expected to be new, or to propose new methods, or to bring a new dimension to existing knowledge.

The following types of manuscripts are accepted in TJAA: Editorial, Research Article, Review Article, Conference Paper, Correction, Report, Dissertations.

Technical notes, letters to the editors, case studies and surveys are not published in the journal.

Articles submitted to the journal for publication must be prepared with journal's own LaTeX template (Latest update: Apr 1, 2021). The package contains all necessary information as well as a sample article which can be filled by copy-pasting from your own work text.

It is possible to use Overleaf for writing TJAA manuscripts. TJAA template is available in the section of Academic Journals of the Overleaf.

Authors should provide an abstract contains at least 100 words. If the author prefers to publish in Turkish, then an English abstract is required. A minimum of 3 keywords should be provided with the manuscript. Keywords must be selected from the list which is common to the major astronomical and astrophysical journals.

Ethical Responsibilities

For Authors

The authors who submit their manuscripts to Turkish Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics are expected to comply with the following ethical responsibilities:

  • Author(s) must submit original studies to the journal. If they utilize or use other studies, they must make the in-text and end-text references accurately and completely.
  • People who have not contributed to the study at the intellectual level should not be indicated as author.
  • If the manuscripts submitted to be published are subject of conflicting interests or relations, these must be explained.
  • During the review process of their manuscripts, author(s) may be asked to supply raw data. In such a case, author(s) should be ready to submit such data and information to the editorial and scientific boards.
  • Author(s) should document that they have the participants' consent and the necessary permissions related with the sharing and research/analysis of the data that are used.
  • Author(s) bears the responsibility to inform the editor of the journal or publisher if they happen to notice a mistake in their study which is in early release or publication process and to cooperate with the editors during the correction or withdrawal process.
  • Authors cannot submit their studies to multiple journals simultaneously. Each submission can be made only after the previous one is completed. A study published in another journal cannot be submitted to Turkish Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics. Author responsibilities given in a study (e.g. adding an author, reordering of author names) whose review process has begun cannot be changed.

For Reviewers

The fact that all manuscripts are reviewed through Blind Review has a direct influence on the publication quality. This process ensures confidentiality by objective and independent review. The review process at Turkish Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics is carried out on the principle of double blind review. Reviewers do not contact the authors directly, and the reviews and comments are conveyed through the journal management system. In this process, the reviewer views on the evaluation forms and full texts are assigned to the author(s) by the editor. Therefore, the reviewers doing review work for Turkish Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics are supposed to bear the following ethical responsibilities.

Reviewers must;

  • Agree to review only in their subject of expertise.
  • Review in an unbiased and confidential manner.
  • Inform the editor of the journal if they think that they encounter conflict of interests and decline to review the manuscript during the review process.
  • Dispose the manuscripts they have reviewed in accordance with the principle of confidentiality after the review process. Reviewers can use the final versions of the manuscripts they have reviewed only after publication.
  • Review the manuscript objectively and only in terms of its content and ensure that nationality, gender, religious and political beliefs, and economic apprehension do not influence the review.
  • Review the manuscript in a constructive and kind tone, avoid making personal comments including hostility, slander and insult.
  • Review the manuscript they have agreed to review on time and in accordance with the ethical rules stated above.
For Editors

The editor and field editors of Turkish Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics should hold the following ethical responsibilities that are based on the guides COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors published as open Access by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Editors are responsible for each study published in Turkish Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics. In this respect, the editors have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Making efforts to meet the demand for knowledge from readers and authors,
  • Ensuring the continuous development of the journal,
  • Managing the procedures aimed to improve the quality of the studies published in the journal,
  • Supporting freedom of expression,
  • Ensuring academic integrity,
  • Following the procedures without making concessions on intellectual property rights and ethical standards,
  • Being transparent and clear in issues that require correction or explanation.
For the Publisher

The Editors and the Editorial Board of Turkish Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics are conscious of the fact that they must observe the ethical responsibilities below and act accordingly:

  • Editors are responsible for all the processes that the manuscripts submitted to TJAA will go through. Within this framework, ignoring the economic or political interests, the decision-makers are the editors.
  • The publisher protects the intellectual property rights of all the articles published in TJAA and holds the responsibility to keep a record of each unpublished article.
  • The publisher bears all the responsibility to take the precautions against scientific abuse, fraud and plagiarism.

Publication Policy

Science with the journal

The Turkish Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics (TJAA) is a scientific research journal founded in August 1st, 2019. It publishes original peer-reviewed national and international research semi-annually in June and December for the fields of astronomy, astrophysics and space sciences, preferably written in English or Turkish. Articles are expected to be new, or to propose a new method, or to bring a new dimension to existing knowledge.

The following types of manuscripts are accepted in TJAA:

  • Editorial,
  • Research Article,
  • Review Article,
  • Conference Paper,
  • Correction,
  • Report,
  • Dissertations.

Publication Frequency

TJAA is published biannually. Issues will be published on every June 15th and December 15th.

Submission, Editors and Reviewing

Manuscripts submitted for publication should not be published anywhere or sent to any other journals for publication. They are evaluated by national and/or international reviewers. Reviewers are not notified to the authors (blind peer review). The editorial board considers the peer reviewers’ reports and make the final decision to accept or reject the manuscript for publication.

Manuscripts submitted for publication should be prepared using the announced LaTeX template. The abstract should contain at least 100 words. Keywords must be selected from the list which is common to the major astronomical and astrophysical journals.

All responsibility for the articles belongs to the respective authors. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with internationally accepted scientific ethics rules. Each submission will be subjected to a similarity check via well-known online tools. Submissions that have more than 15% similarity report will not be taken to the reviewing process.

There is no evaluation and application fee for the articles published in TJAA.

Evaluation Period

Manuscripts will be evaluated within 21 days after the submission. Editorial board may extend this period for an extra 7 days or withdraw reviewer's appointment, and assigns a new one.

Copyright Form signed by corresponding author has to be uploaded to the DergiPark System along with the manuscript.

Reviewer will mark the manuscript with one of four decisions: accept, accept with minor corrections, accept with major corrections, reject. Manuscripts that needs revision have to be resubmitted by applying reviewer's recommendations. Manuscripts with minor (major) corrections have to be resubmitted within 3 (6) weeks after reviewer's decision, respectively. Manuscripts that do not reach the desired level will be considered scientifically insufficient and they will be rejected.

When the manuscript is accepted for publication corresponding author should return page editing within 30 days and afterwards proofreading should be finished subsequent 10 days. If manuscripts are not returned within these periods they will be automatically rejected.

Preprint Policy

Authors have the right to make their submissions (the preprint versions) available through preprint services such as arXiv.org.

Publication in TJAA is free from any charge.
